2 Kings 22-1 Chronicles 2 Summary
(22:19)because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you", says the LORD.
In chapter 22, Josiah reigned over the king for forty-one years, and Josiah was upright in the eyes of the Lord, and did not turn from side to side.In the eighteenth year, Josiah sent Shaphan the scribe to the temple of the Lord, who kept the silver, or door, that the people offered to the temple of the Lord. And he told them to count the silver they had received and hand it over to the hand of the overseer who was in charge of the temple of the Lord to repair the broken pieces in the temple. Hilkiah the high priest said that he had found the book of the law in the temple of the Lord, and gave it to Shaphan. When Shaphan read it before the king, he tore his clothes and ask the priest and attendant to ask the Lord about the words of this book. Asked Hulda, Josiah said that he would let him enter the tomb in peace.
(23:11) Then he removed the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun, at the entrance to the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan-Melech, the officer who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.
In chapter 23, when the king gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem, and the king went up to the temple of the Lord, all the people of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the prophets, and all the people were with the king. The king read all the words of the ark of the covenant in the temple of the LORD and heard it in the ears of the crowd, and the king stood on the altar and made a covenant before the LORD, obeying the LORD, and keeping his commandments, laws, and statutes, so that the words of the covenant written in the book might be fulfilled. They all decided to follow the covenant. The king ordered Hilkiah the high priest, the deputy priests, and those who rubbed them, and brought out all the vessels made for Baal, Asherah, and the Holy Spirit of Heaven from the temple of the Lord, and burned them, and destroyed those who burned incense to other gods.
(24:13) And he carried out from there all the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king's house, and he cut in pieces all the articles of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said.
In chapter 24, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up in the days of Jehoiakim, and Jehoiakim betrayed after serving for three years. So he sent the troops of Chaldeans, the Arameans, the Moabs, and the Ammons to Jehoiakim to defeat Judah, because of all the sins of Manasseh. Jehoiakim slept with his ancestors, and Jehoiachin took over as king. When Jehoiachin reigned for three months, Nebuchadnezzar's servants surrounded the city of Jerusalem, and Jehoiachin, along with his mother, servants, and eunuchs, was captured by the king of Babylon. They fled to the side gate of the king's garden and went to the Arabah road. They were caught by the army of Chaldeans in the plains of Jericho, before the king of Babylon, their eyes were plucked, and their children were killed. After that, the temple in Jerusalem and the house of the nobleman were burned, and all those who remained in the city were taken captive by Nebusaradan, the captain of the protest, and the bronze of the temple was broken and taken away. The king of Babylon put Gedaliah to control the land, but Ishmael killed Gedaliah and fled to Egypt, and Jehoiachin was released by Ewilmerodak.
