(Proverbs 17:27~28 연단) He who has known ledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive. 하나님은 말을 절제하는 주의 자녀를 슬기롭고 명철케 하는 분이시다. 오늘 본문에서는 '마른 떡 한 조각만 있고도 화목하는 것이 제육이 집에 가득하고도 다투는 것보다 나으니라'고 하시며 슬기로운 종은 주인의 형제 중에서 유업을 나누어 얻을 것이라 하셨다. 또한 도가니는 은, 풀무는 금, 여호와는 마음을 연단시키신다고 하며 악을 행하는 자는 사악한 입술이 하는 말을 잘 듣는다고 하고 가난한 자를 조롱하는 자는 그를 지으신 주를 멸시하는 자라고 하였다. 또한, 한마디로 총명한 자를 충고하는 것이 매 백대로 미련한 자를 때리는 것보다 더욱 깊이 박힌다고 하고 친구는 사랑이 끊이지 않고 형제는 위급한 때를 위해 났다고 했다. 아멘
