God is the One who gives signs and portents to His children. In today's text, in the year that Sargon king of Assyria sent Tartan to Ashdod and took Ashdod, the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, 'Remove the sackcloth from your loins, and take your sandals from your feet.' So he went about naked and barefoot. Then the Lord said, 'My servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years, to be a sign and a portent against Egypt and Ethiopia.' When the captives of Egypt and the captives of Ethiopia are taken away to the king of Assyria, both young and old will be put to shame, naked and barefoot, and Ethiopia and Egypt will be ashamed. Amen.
