God is the One who protects and guards His children with His power. In today's text, Ezekiel is told to lament for the high officials. Their mother was a lioness who raised young lions. One of them, when grown, devoured a man and was taken captive to Egypt. Then the lioness chose one of her cubs and raised it as a young lion. It walked among men, toppled palaces, and devoured people. In the lands besieged by foreign nations, nets were laid, traps were set, and the cubs were taken to the king of Babylon, so that their voices were no longer heard on the mountains of Israel. Their bloody mother was like a vine, with many branches, one of which stood out. In anger, it was plucked out, thrown to the ground, and withered, leaving no strong branch left to rule. Amen.
