광복절에 드리는 기도
 
우리 민족을 회복시키신 하나님 감사합니다.
 
오늘은 우리 민족이 일제의 강점에서 벗어남을 기억하는 날입니다.
 
애굽에서 이스라엘 백성들의 부르짖음을 들으셨던 것처럼 독립을 위한 간절한 우리의 기도에 응답해 주셔서 감사합니다.
 
일제강점기 35년 동안 우리 민족은 어둠 속에서 고난의 삶을 살았습니다.
 
이 땅의 자녀들은 고유한 말과 글을 사용할 수 없었고, 우리의 성과 이름을 쓸 수가 없었습니다.
 
더 나아가 이 땅의 기독교인들은 신사참배를 통하여 하나님 외에 다른 신을 섬기도록 강요되었습니다.
 
그리하여 어떤 이들은 스데반이 그러했듯이 죽음으로 믿음을 지켜냈습니다.
 
하나님, 이 땅에 빛으로 회복(광복)을 꿈꾸며 민족을 이끌었던 독립운동가들을 보내 주셔서 감사합니다.
 
많은 핍박 가운데에서도 우리의 말과 글을 가르쳤던 교회, 가정을 지켜주셔서 감사합니다.
 
무엇보다도 이 땅 곳곳마다 십자가가 세워지고 예배하는 민족이 되게 해 주셔서 감사합니다.
 
이제 우리를 해방시킨 하나님의 은혜를 기억하며, 더 이상 어둠에 거하지 않고 빛과 동행하는 우리 민족 되게 하옵소서.

A Prayer for Liberation Day

Thank you, God, for restoring our people.

Today is the day we remember our people's liberation from Japanese colonial rule.

Just as you heard the cries of the Israelites in Egypt, thank you for answering our fervent prayers for independence.

During the 35 years of Japanese colonial rule, our people lived in darkness and suffering.

The children of this land were unable to use their own language or writing, and were prohibited from using their own names and surnames.

Furthermore, Christians in this land were forced to worship other gods than God through Shinto shrine worship.

Thus, some, like Stephen, defended their faith through death.

God, thank you for sending independence activists to this land who led the nation, dreaming of restoration (liberation) as light.

Thank you for protecting the churches and families that taught our language and writing amidst much persecution.

Above all, thank you for erecting crosses everywhere in this land and for allowing us to become a people who worship.

Now, remembering the grace of God that has liberated us, may we become a people who no longer dwell in darkness but walk in the light.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
