(Jonah 3:5~6 재) So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them. Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and sat in ashes. 하나님은 주의 자녀를 통해 죄를 회개케 하는 일을 이루시는 분이시다. 오늘 본문에서는 여호와의 말씀이 두번째로 요나에게 임하여 '니느웨로 가서 내가 네게 명한 바를 그들에게 선포하라'하시니, 큰 성읍 니느웨로 가서 하룻동안 다니며 '사십일이 지나면 니느웨가 무너지리라'했다. 이에 니느웨 사람들이 하나님을 믿고 높은 자나 낮은 자나 굵은 베를 입고, 니느웨 왕은 왕복을 벗고 재 위에 앉았으며 조서를 내려 아무것도 입에 대지 말라 했다. 또한 하나님이 뜻을 돌이키시고 그들을 멸망하지 않게 하실 줄 누가 알 것인가 하며 각기 악한 길에서 떠나라 하매 하나님이 그들이 돌이킨 것을 보시고 주의 뜻을 돌이켜 재앙을 내리지 않으셨다. 아멘

God is the One who brings repentance to His children through their sins. In today's passage, the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying, "Go to Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I command you." Jonah went to the great city of Nineveh and traveled around for a day, proclaiming, "Yet forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown." The people of Nineveh believed God, and everyone, great and small, put on sackcloth. The king of Nineveh took off his robe and sat in ashes. He issued a decree prohibiting anyone from touching anything. "Who knows if God will relent and not destroy them?" he urged. "Everyone turn from your evil ways." When God saw that they turned, he relented and did not bring disaster upon them. Amen.
