(Matthew 3:11 성령) I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 하나님은 주의 자녀에게 성령과 불로 세례를 베푸시는 분이시다. 오늘 본문에서는 세례요한이 광야에서 전파하여 '회개하라 천국이 가까이 왔느니라'하시며 선지자 이사야가 광야에서 외치는 자의 소리가 있을 것이라 하셨다고 하며 요한은 낙타 털옷을 입고 메뚜기와 석청을 먹었다고 했다. 이 때 예루살렘, 유다, 요단강 사방에서 나와 자기죄를 자백하고 세례요한에게 세례를 받았는데 세례요한이 바리새인들과 사두개인들에게 독사의 자식들아 하며 회개를 촉구하고, 자신의 뒤에 오시는 이는 능력이 많으시고 성령과 불로 세례를 베푸시며 타작마당을 정하게 하실 것이라 했다. 예수께서 세례를 받으시니 성령이 비둘기같이 내렸다. 아멘

God is the One who baptizes His children with the Holy Spirit and fire. In today's text, John the Baptist preached in the wilderness, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." The prophet Isaiah said there would be a voice calling in the wilderness. John wore clothing made of camel's hair and ate locusts and wild honey. At that time, people from Jerusalem, Judea, and the Jordan River came out, confessing their sins and being baptized by John. John the Baptist called the Pharisees and Sadducees "You brood of vipers," urging them to repent. He also announced that the one coming after him would be powerful and baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire, purifying the threshing floors. When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove. Amen.
