시기하지 않는 부모 되게 하소서
 
사랑의 하나님, 처음 사람이 범죄하던 순간에 뱀이 하와에게 불러일으켰던 '하나님과 같이 될 것이다'라는 유혹에 오늘도 몸부림치는 우리를 긍휼히 여겨주옵소서.
 
형 에서의 장자의 명분을 탐내다가 모두를 속여 험난한 세월을 보낸 야곱의 삶과, 요셉에 대한 형들의 시기심은 형제에게 해를 가하고 부모를 속이는 죄로 이어졌음을 보여주셨지만 오늘도 우리는 그로 인해 나의 인생 뿐 아니라 공동체를 불행하게 만들며 살아갑니다.
 
하나님, 뼈를 썩게 하는 시기의 괴로움으로부터 우리를 지키시고 사랑을 위해 시기를 경계하는 부모가 되게 하옵소서.
 
끝없는 욕심으로 우리 자녀들을 비교하며 질투하는 마음을 경계하게 하시고, 자녀들 스스로도 다른 아이들과 비교하며 부러워하고 갖지 못한 것을 갖고자 하는 욕심으로부터 지켜주시기를 원합니다.
 
그리하여 우리가 받은 족한 은혜와 감사를 매일 매순간 고백하며 시기없는 사랑으로 살아가는 즐겁고 복된 인생이 되게 하옵소서.

May we be parents who do not envy.

God of love, have mercy on us who still struggle with the temptation of "you will be like God," which the serpent provoked Eve when the first human sinned.

You showed us how Jacob, coveting his brother Esau's birthright, deceived everyone and endured difficult times. You also showed us how the brothers' jealousy of Joseph led to their sins of harming their brothers and deceiving their parents. Yet, even today, we continue to live our lives, bringing misery not only to ourselves but also to our communities.

God, protect us from the torment of rotten envy, and help us be parents who guard against envy for the sake of love.

Please guard us against the endless greed of comparing ourselves to others and jealously guard our children against the desire to possess what they cannot.

May we live joyful and blessed lives, confessing the abundant grace and gratitude we have received every moment of every day, and living with love free from envy.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
